Dear All,

The MBTA is planning to cut transit service and greatly increase fares, and
the activist community will protest the MBTA plans today! The T-Riders
Union, Occupy Somerville, Occupy Boston, the Industrial Workers of the
World, and many other community, environmental, social justice and
political groups will be taking a strong stand against the MBTA's effective
tax and wage-cut proposal for working people.

If the MBTA’s Fare & Service Changes (see: http://tinyurl.com/
mbta-service-cuts) are not stopped, services including dozens of bus
routes, some commuter rail, the RIDE and all ferry service will be
drastically cut back or eliminated. This plan could also see up to 564 MBTA
workers out of a job in this difficult economy (see page 13 of:
http://tinyurl.com/mbta-impact which outlines many negative effects of
these cuts). The MBTA also plans huge fare increases, but none of this will
get the MBTA out of its 8 billion dollar debt. When you pay your fare, your
money contributes only to interest payments on the MBTA’s massive debt. No
different than other speculative investments that have contributed to the
current recession, this debt is not our problem to pay for and the MBTA
needs to look elsewhere to cover its shortfall.

The MBTA wants you to bail them out by paying more money for less service
that will make it harder for you to get to your job, visit your friends and
family and stay off the roads during the busiest or latest hours.

*Make your voice heard, oppose the MBTA plan at the MONDAY,
JANUARY 23 DAY OF ACTION!

6:30 PM: Meet in front of the Transportation Building (Near Park Street and
Boylston Stations) 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116 (See map/directions:
http://tinyurl.com/mbta-transportation-bldg) and rally to oppose these
plans!*

Bring your noise, chants, signs! Please forward this message!

In Solidarity,

Geoff Carens, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW)
