Second Thoughts on Question 2
Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 2 p.m.
Is it Death with Dignity or Assisted Suicide?
Is it free choice or not? Will the safeguards work?
Almost everyone with a “terminal illness” has a disability, and people with disabilities face life-or-death situations on a regular basis. Disability rights activists have studied this issue for 30 years, and have lived it our whole lives. We are savvy users of the health care system, and know its strengths and weaknesses. Who better, then, to shed light on the complex issues raised by Question 2?
Second Thoughts is a group of Massachusetts voters with disabilities opposed to Question 2. Our supporters include local and national disability rights organizations who oppose assisted suicide, such as:
Boston Center for Independent living (BCIL) Cape Organization for the Rights of the Disabled (CORD)
Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities Boston Commission for Persons with Disabilities
National Council on Disability M*POWER
Disability Policy Consortium Not Dead Yet
Independence Associates World Institute on Disability
MetroWest Center for Independent Living Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund
Autism Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) National Council on Independent Living (NCIL)
