CME SPECIAL EVENT

“Time for change in the labor movement"

Unions cannot effectively go on as we have. In the 1930s we had to
move past craft unionism into industrial unionism; the labor movement
today is again overdue for change. Today as the crisis of capitalism
continues to unfold, attacks on workers and unions are escalating.
What will it take to successfully resist these attacks? The labor
movement is not going away; the question is: What internal and
external changes are necessary to achieve lasting victories. The
talk addresses some of the necessary change, and calls for discussion
and new ideas.

Our speaker, John Lambiase, was a long-time president of UE District
6, which includes the GE locomotive plant in Erie, Pa. He led several
successful organizing drives and struggles that resulted in good
contracts. He brings wit and deep insights into important issues.

UPCOMING CME EVENTS:

China Study, Thursday December 13 @ 7 p.m.

"Presentation and discussion on the results of China's 18th Party
Congress, the new leadership and possible implications for policy."

Progressive film night, Sunday, December 9 @ 6 p.m.

"Looking for Fidel" 2011, English Narration, 63 minutes

Come see Oliver Stone’s candid, in-depth conversation with Fidel
Castro. Stone challenges Castro to explain actions following the
execution of three political dissidents who attempted to hijack a
ferry to the United States in April 2003. Castro's response and his
actions were condemned throughout the capitalist world, further
isolating Cuba. Stone was given unprecedented access, interviewing
not only Castro, but many of the prisoners, their wives, leading
dissidents and human rights advocates -- all of whom express their
views forcefully in the emotionally charged environment of Cuba today.
