President Obama is bargaining with Republicans to cut the deficit. But he
shouldn’t balance the budget on the backs of ordinary people, who didn’t
cause the problems.
On November 7, the people of 91 Massachusetts cities and towns passed
the /Budget for All [2] /by a 3 to 1 margin. It calls for budget
principles that will put people back to work, fight climate change, rebuild
our economy for the future, and stop endless wars, while balancing the
budget.
Read about apparent doublespeak by some Democrats [3] on the "fiscal
cliff".
Tell Senators Kerry and Brown to oppose any budget deal that does not respect
the principles the people of Massachusetts voted for:
• Stop the cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment
benefits, housing, food and veterans’ benefits
• Invest in jobs in manufacturing, schools, housing, renewable energy,
transportation and public services
• Close corporate tax loopholes, end offshore tax havens, and raise taxes
on incomes over $250,000
• Reduce the military budget, end the war in Afghanistan and bring
troops home safely now
We will gather in front of Senator Kerry’s office to deliver a letter, and
then march to Senator Brown’s nearby office. Tell our elected officials
that the people have spoken. Don’t listen to the greedy and their
lobbyists – listen to the people of Massachusetts. *Reject the "grand
bargain" – it’s a turkey! *
