Reverend James Lawson played a crucial role in the U.S. civil rights movement and in waging labor struggles including during the Memphis sanitation strike in which Martin Luther King was assassinated. MLK called Lawson "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world." Lawson comes to Harvard to deliver the 2015 Jerry Wurf Memorial Lecture in honor of the foremost public employee labor organizer in the postwar United States.
