Amid a resurgence of xenophobic nationalism, Islamophobia, Antisemitism,
and racism more generally, how do we refute charges of Antisemitism that
are broadly leveled against advocates for Black liberation, immigrant
justice and national self-determination for the Palestinian people?
To help us navigate these questions, Lara Kiswani from Beit Iksa and Aqir,
Palestine, and Executive Director of the Arab Resource and Organizing
Center (AROC) and Lesley Williams of Jewish Voice for Peace will be joining
our show.
- *Lara Kiswani *is from Beit Iksa and Aqir, Palestine, and was born and
raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been active in movements
against war, Palestinian self-determination, and Third World solidarity
movements for the last 20 years. She is a lecturer at San Francisco State
University in the College of Ethnic Studies, and the executive director of
the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC).
- *Lesley Williams *is a member of the coordinating committee for Jewish
Voice for Peace in Chicago organizing around Islamophobia issues. Lesley
participated in two West Bank delegations with the Center for Jewish
Nonviolence for solidarity work and resistance with Palestinian and Israeli
peace activists, and is on the CJNV strategies and values team. She has
spoken on Islamophobia and antisemitism at the American Studies Association
conference, the MAS-ICNA conference and the American Muslims for Palestine
conference; and is a featured speaker for Jews Against Anti-Muslim Racism
and recently published the article "We Cannot Fight Anti-Semitism and
Anti-Black Racism in Isolation" in Truthout. She reviews books on race,
Islamophobia and Palestine for Booklist magazine.
