In solidarity with the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal being held in
Colombia, July 21-23 Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner will introduce a
resolution to declare Boston a */"Coke Free"/* City. Join with Boston
area unionists and community activists to support this important act of
solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Colombia.
Excerpt of the Boston City Council Resolution to be introduced to
declare Boston a "Coke Free" city.
*Whereas, *the District Council 35 of the Painters and Allied Trades
Building on Colgate Rd, Roslindale has made their building a "Coke Free
Building" by removing all Coke vending machines from the building; and
*Whereas,* USW 8751 has succeeded in having Coca Cola vending machines
removed from all four school bus yards in the City of Boston; and
*Whereas,* the Boston City Council recognizes the importance of
supporting local labor unions, who in the interest of solidarity and
justice, are supporting the boycott of Coca-Cola; Therefore Be It
* Resolved,* that the Boston City Council states
it support for the international boycott of Coca-Cola products and does
hereby declare that Boston, Massachusetts is a "Coke Free" city and asks
the City Administration to not serve Coca-Cola products or stock them in
any vending machines that are located on City property; and Be It Further
*Resolved,* that the Boston City Council encourages all businesses to
immediately cease and desist from the stocking and selling of all
Coca-Cola products until the international boycott has been resolved.
